YourWiki
YourWiki was a free advertisement-supported MediaWiki host. YourWiki had a Premium Wiki service, that removed adverts, gave premium support, and more, as well as a Personal Wiki service, which was geared for people looking to use a wiki as an organisational tool.
To create a wiki, users had to create an account first and request a wiki. Once the request was approved by the admins, they were given admin rights on the wiki. Alternatively, if they didn't want a large wiki to care for, they could create a mini-wiki at the MiniWikis wiki.[1]
The wiki farm was founded in 2008 by Charles Melbye. It started as a small project that has steadily grown over the months.[2]
On 29 April 2010, YourWiki announced that it was shutting down temporarily due to a lack of activity and a shortage of staff, but planned to reopen after the software was rewritten.[3] On 21 May 2010, the wiki farm locked about 66 wikis. The wiki was later shut down around late 2010, with new wiki requests being disabled beginning in mid-2010.[4]
