Default copyrights on ShoutWiki[edit source]

Like Wikis Wiki, and except where otherwise stated, all new wikis created on ShoutWiki are automatically licensed under the CC-BY-SA license. This licensing information can found in the footer of a wiki.

Other free licenses[edit source]

In certain instances non-premium wikis can be converted from the CC-BY-SA license to another free license, dependant on that clear and concise reasons are provided to ShoutWiki Staff. Please use Special:Contact to contact ShoutWiki Staff, making sure to provide the title of free license along with the reasons why ShoutWiki should consider the change.

Copyrighted wikis[edit source]

Wikis that are classified within ShoutWiki as either Private or School/Education (i.e. "Premium" or "Paid" wikis) have the option of being copyrighted at the time of a wiki's creation. If your premium wiki was created under the default CC-BY-SA license and circumstances now dictate that your wiki should be copyrighted, please use Special:Contact to contact ShoutWiki Staff, making sure to provide the necessary legal documentation to facilitate the license change.

Free use and non-text files[edit source]

Freely licensed or public domain images are strongly preferred on ShoutWiki.

Non-text media on ShoutWiki should not be assumed to be available under the same license as the accompanying text. Non-text media on ShoutWiki wikis should be accompanied by a description which lists the applicable license and any other licensing information (such as author, etc.). Please view the media description page for details about the license of any specific media file.

If you are uploading files to ShoutWiki, you should cite the source of the file, attribute the authors, and note any copyright information, where applicable. Individual communities may elaborate upon and refine requirements for file uploads through the use of templates if they so choose. Making sure that the licenses of non-free, non-text files are properly displayed helps avoid problems which may present themselves at a later date.

Importing text from elsewhere[edit source]

If you want to import text that you have found elsewhere, or that you have co-authored with others, you can only do so if it is available under terms that are compatible with the license of the wiki where the text is being imported to, which will most likely be the CC-BY-SA license. If your wiki operates under a different license, then the importing text must be compatible with your wiki's license.

Work which you do not hold the copyright to, or which is not available under this license, should not be added to ShoutWiki. If these works are added to your ShoutWiki then please make sure that the appropriate documentation accompanies the text, showing that the copyright holder has afforded you the necessary permissions to re-use their text/work.

If you import text under a compatible license which requires attribution, you must, in a reasonable fashion, credit the author(s). Where such credit is commonly given through page histories (such as copying within ShoutWiki), it is sufficient to give attribution in the edit summary, which is recorded in the page history, when importing the text.

Using ShoutWiki content[edit source]

Attribution example when re-using ShoutWiki content on your own website:

This article uses material from the "Samuel Brooklyn" article on the Commandos wiki at ShoutWiki and is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike License.

Each ShoutWiki site contains information on which license the text is under, normally found in the footer of that wiki. It is your own responsibility to understand and adhere to the license. Text from external sources may attach additional attribution requirements to the work beyond what is described on this page.

When re-using ShoutWiki content that has been released under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike License, you must provide credit to the authors either by including a) a hyperlink (where possible) or URL to the page(s) you are re-using, b) a hyperlink (where possible) or URL to an alternative, stable online copy which is freely accessible, which conforms with the license, and which provides credit to the authors in a manner equivalent to the credit given on this website, or c) a list of all authors. (Any list of authors may be filtered to exclude very small or irrelevant contributions.). If you make modifications or additions to the page you re-use, you must license them under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike License 3.0 or later. For further information, please refer to the legal code of the CC-BY-SA License.

Off-wiki content (for example, emails, IRC chats, off-wiki forums, etc.) should not be assumed to be released under this license if this is not explicitly stated. This type of content should only be used with the expressed permission of those involved.

Violations[edit source]

If you believe that you have come across a copyright violation please contact us at copyrightsAt sign.pngshoutwiki.com and make sure to list:

  • The name and URL of wiki that the supposed violation occurred;
  • The URL of the necessary wiki page;
  • The reason why you believe that a violation has taken place.

Once ShoutWiki Staff have received your message, we will review the information and take any necessary action if required.
