The Suffolk County Transit Wiki is an wiki on Wikidot (and formerly self-hosted on InfinityFree) about current and former bus routes and operators in Suffolk County, New York. As of 2024, the wiki is a part of the Pentagon of NY Bus Transportation.

History[edit | edit source]

The wiki was originally founded by BusesAreAwesome on March 1, 2023 and hosted on InfinityFree, following the founding of the Foreston Transit Roblox Wiki on ByetHost. In September 2023, the creator and admin began copying the source code to Google Sites as a backup measure, since the InfinityFree site was often unstable. In December 2023, the New York City Department of Education blocked the InfinityFree wiki on the creator's school computer, thinking it was for malicious purposes. As a result, he had to create and move the wiki to Wikidot on January 24, 2024, with the first page being created on February 1, 2024.

On October 16, 2024, the Pentagon of NY Bus Transportation was formed as a family of five wikis about bus transportation in the New York City area, and the SCTW became a member of the wiki group.

There was a proposal to merge the New York City-area bus wikis, including the Suffolk County Transit Wiki, Buses in Westchester County, New York Wiki, and Buses in Nassau County Wiki, into one wiki in October 2024. However, the articles about some buses in the NYC area were created at the Buses in the USA Wiki.

The proposal for the New York City-area bus wikis to merge into one wiki was canceled, and instead, it was planned to merge the NYC-area bus wikis to the Buses in the USA Wiki, once the Buses in the USA Wiki moved to Miraheze in November 2024.
